Manitoba Forage and Grassland Association (MFGA) says alfalfa in the western and central regions is ready to cut.

Wednesday, June 6 was 'Hay Day' in those regions, the estimated day that alfalfa will reach a relative feed value of 170.

Extension Support Person John McGregor says this years crop is on track with previous years.

"I'd say right now we're probably almost on schedule for average. When we look at the average over the last 23 years, typially between June 7 and June 11 is kind of where we fall, as far as averages."

McGregor notes alfalfa growers in the eastern region will have to wait a couple of days, with their Hay Day being estimated for June 10th.

He adds producers normally get three or four cuts of alfalfa per year, depending on conditions.
