Nine of the resolutions that Keystone Agricultural Producers (KAP) put forward at the Canadian Federation of Agriculture annual meeting last week were passed, including one on seed royalties that was combined with an APAS resolution.

- Resolved that the CFA not endorse the current end-point royalty and farm-saved seed trailing royalty contract models as presented at this time;

- Resolved that the CFA lobby the Government of Canada and work with other industry stakeholders to support the adoption of alternative models, potentially including point-of-delivery check-off systems,

- Resolved that the CFA lobby the Government of Canada and work with other industry stakeholders to support models that address the following principles as they relate to plant breeding: maintain and enhance public research, development and finishing of new varieties; preserve or enhance current public funding; ensure transparency with producer involvement; maintain the privilege of farm-saved seed; create systems that are administered in a fair and equitable manner; ensure producers can remain competitive in the world marketplace.

Other KAP resolutions included a number on railway service and maintenance, as well as one by U of M students calling on the federal government to provide more resources to help innovative farms and value-added enterprises get established.
