Many farmers have been asking about the correct time to roll soybeans post-emergence.

Cassandra Tkachuk is a production specialist with Manitoba Pulse and Soybean Growers (MPSG).

"Aim for the first trifoliate stage, when all plants are expected to be well past the hypocotyl arch stage," she explained. "Some breakage will occur when soybeans are rolled at V1, but aiming for the heat of the afternoon will minimize this damage. Avoid rolling if soybeans are at or approaching the thrid trifoliate stage as significant breakage will occur. Finally, assess the plant stand after rolling and refer back to your target population."

Tkachuk adds that June is also the time that producers should be assessing plant stands and scouting for cutworms.
