A 21-year-old man from Winkler is facing a series of charges after not only assaulting a woman this past weekend, but also RCMP officers.

According to Manitoba RCMP, the officers from Treherne were called to an assault at a home in Cypress River shortly before Noon on Saturday. There, they found the victim, an adult woman, with minor injuries.

Officers then located the male suspect, and say that while attempting to handcuff him, he became combative and proceeded to assault them and also attempted to disarm them. After a brief struggle, RCMP noted, the man was placed into custody where he continued to threaten the officers and even spit at one. The officers received minor injuries in the incident.

As a result, the suspect has been charged with Disarming a Police Officer, three counts of Assault on Police Officer, two counts of Uttering Threats, Assault and Resisting Arrest

He was remanded into custody.
