Altona Fire Department Contains Grass Fire

Altona fire fighters were able to contain a grass fire that could have turned into a very serious situation.

The fire started just south of Neubergthal.

Altona Fire Chief Irv Braun says a hydro transformer malfunctioned and the hot oil from the transformer ignited the grass.

Braun says the concern was the fire was coming close to a 1000 gallon propane tank with was 30-40 metres away from a hog barn.

He says they managed to keep the propane tank cool and contain the fire before it did any serious damage.

Braun adds the fire danger is very high any outdoor burning should be done with extreme care with supervision and water on hand in case a fire gets out of hand.
