For the third time in two games Winnipeg’s kick return coverage was burned for a touchdown. Chad Owens took Alexis Serna’s missed 45 yard field goal attempt 117 yards for touchdown early in the fourth quarter as the Toronto Argonauts beat the Blue Bombers 36-34.

Winnipeg made it interesting late as Terrence Jeffers-Harris caught his second touchdown pass of the game, a 38-yarder from Buck Pierce, with 16 seconds left to get the Bombers within two points. Serna’s onside kick was recovered by the Argos who then ran out the clock.

Terrence Edwards hauled in a 21 yard pass from Pierce for Winnipeg’s first major. Pierce, who completed 25 of 35 pass attempts for 366 yards, had a 43 yard touchdown run late in the first half.

Toronto kicker Grant Shaw was good on field goals of 29, 52, 35 and 12 yards. Running back Cory Boyd and quarterback Cleo Lemon had rushing majors for the Argos who led 16-0. The game was tied 17-17 at the half.

Winnipeg has a win and a loss to start the 2010 Canadian Football League season. The Blue Bombers will play their first road game next Friday in Hamilton.
