The issue of the border road in the R.M. of Rhineland is not going to go away soon.

The R.M. and the Pembina County Water Commission are embroiled in a lawsuit.

The commission calls the road a dike which holds back the natural flow of flood water in spring, causing damage to local roads and bridges.

It has filed suit for those damages and it wants the dike taken down.

The R.M. sticks by its contention that the structure is a road.

Reeve John Falk says they would like to find a way to resolve this issue without going to court, but he does not see a quick end to the situation.

Falk says the R.M. remains firm in its resolve to maintain the border road and has no intention of taking it down.
