An Altona man is facing a pair of charges after trying to rob a local restaurant.Police say the 57 year old entered the Main Street establishment around 7:30 p.m. Sunday, wearing a black balaclava and holding a knife.

The man ordered one of the staff to give him the money out of the cash register or he would get his girlfriend, who he said was waiting in the car outside with a gun. At this time another employee came out of the kitchen and the man fled without any money. 

Thanks to the victims' description, officers were able to obtain images of the culprit from local surveillance cameras. The man was arrested and charged with Attempted Armed Robbery and Assault with a Weapon.

He has been released on a Promise to Appear in Court in Altona.
