People around the Pembina Valley, and beyond, are mourning the loss of a well-known Winkler businessman, family man, and friend.

Doug Janzen, owner and operator of Janzen's Paint and Decorating, passed away last weekend in a motorcycle accident near Darlingford. He was 51 years old.

Winkler and District Chamber of Commerce Past President, Darren Heide said it was devastating to hear the news of Janzen's passing, both from a personal perspective, and business perspective. He said Janzen had such a large influence in the community, and his death is such a sad loss.

"He was such a hard working and wonderful person, and it's just a tragic loss that will be felt within the entire community...he'll be really missed. Our hearts go out to the family."

Janzen made significant contribution to the area, and he was a man who was involved in many different areas within the community, and not just through business, added Heide. He says Janzen was certainly well-liked and known as a strong leader in the community, adding it was also very clear he was very well liked and respected by his customers and staff.

"He had a strong heart for family and friends. And looking at the business side, he exemplified business excellence, and along with that, customer service. It was always clear that he was going above and beyond."

Since 1992, Janzen had grown his business from one store in Winker, to a total of 5 locations in surrounding Southern Manitoba communities. Janzen's Paint and Decorating also has locations in Brandon, Portage, Steinbach, and Winnipeg.

Heide says Janzen not only had a strong influence in Winkler, but wherever he had a presence, he had a strong influence there as well.

A private funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, tomorrow, July 24th, with live streaming available through a link on Wiebe Funeral Homes website.
