Staff at GoldenWest Radio are mourning the loss of Jon Wiebe together with the community.

Wiebe was a huge supporter of the community and local sports, including regular basketball games with local organizations. The Winkler Wizzards Special Olympics team regularly challenged staff from the Eagle 93.5 and Country 88 for a friendly game. He will be deeply missed by many.

A number of local organizations took to social media recently to share a tribute of Jon.

Winkler Storm:

"The news of big Jon's passing has hit some of us very hard. Sunday at the soccer fun day we couldn't wait for you to get to the soccer field because the team had something for you to add on to your storm soccer jersey. We couldn't wait to hear you cheering the teams on and then catch up after the game, that big smile and laugh too.

In this life you are either a life changer or a life tagalonger. Big Jon you were a life changer because of the positive impact you had on a lot of us personally and as a team. You would come to our practices then some of us would pretend to be injured or tired just to come say hi and catch up with you and then the laughs would burst out. Bro your contagious smile and laugh will be missed. You will be missed.
Until we meet again Big J."

Winkler Police Service:

"Over the past several years, many of us have developed a friendship with Jonathan Wiebe through our yearly Special Olympics basketball game. We are deeply saddened by news of his passing. We will always remember his enthusiasm and positivity. You will be missed Jonathan."

The Winkler Royals:

"The Winkler Royals are deeply saddened to hear the news that one of their biggest supporters, Big Jon, recently passed away. The Royals players, volunteers, coaching staff, management and board would like to extend the deepest condolences to Jon’s family, friends, and those close to him.

You were always ready on gameday, with your blue Royals jersey, to be one of the boys, and you were truly that.

Big Jon, we will miss your excitement, energy, enthusiasm, and passion for life, especially at the rink. We will miss the fist pumps, pep talks, and feedback when you know we needed to ‘pick it up’.

We will miss you Big Jon. Until we meet again."

Winkler Flyers:

"This week we lost our good buddy Jonathan Wiebe. Thanks for always being there to cheer us on and for always having our back. Our deepest condolences to all his friends and family."

CFAM Radio 950 Morning Show Co-Host Chris Sumner has been Jon's Co-Head Coach for the last several years with the Valley Rollers 10-pin Bowling Club based in Winkler. He shared this message with us:

"I am heartbroken by Jon's passing. He truly was a positive light in our Club, and in the community. He had the ability to turn your day around completely with his hearty handshakes, slaps on the back, contagious laugh and infectious smile. Jon was simply the kind of person who made every day a bit better. From the very loud laughs we shared to the quieter times when we had the responsibility of saying grace together before our Club's celebratory meals... Jon was a special person. He will be missed by his teammates, friends, family and entire community."
