The process of finding a candidate to succeed MLA Jack Penner is underway in the riding of Emerson.

Penner has announced he will not seek re-election.

Emerson Progressive Conservative Association President Rick Martel notes a number of people have expressed interest in the position.

He says they will be ready whenever the Doer Government decides to call a provincial election, but he hopes they won't need to hold a nomination meeting during the harvest season.

Martel says he has enjoyed working with Penner.

He notes one highlight was winning Penner's first election in 1988.

Penner had just finished his term as president of the Keystone Agricultural Producers, and he ran in the riding then known as Rhineland.
