At 1:35 pm, on October 21, 2020, Pembina Valley RCMP received a report of a two-vehicle collision involving a semi-trailer and a pickup truck at the intersection of Road 35 N and Road 20 W, located approximately seven kilometres east of Carman, in the RM of Dufferin.

The investigation has determined that a semi-trailer, being driven by a 60-year-old male from the RM of Dufferin, was travelling northbound on Road 20 W when it entered the intersection and collided with a westbound pickup, being driven by a 76-year-old male, also from the RM of Dufferin.

The Carman Dufferin Fire Department reported through social media that firefighters worked to free the driver of the half ton using the Jaws of Life. Paramedics were on scene to assist in the extrication while STARS Air Ambulance was called and transported the driver of the half ton to Winnipeg.

The 76-year-old was rushed to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The 60-year-old was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Alcohol and speed are not believed to be factors in the collision.

Pembina Valley RCMP, along with a Forensic Collision Reconstructionist, continue to investigate. The area is still closed to traffic at this time.
