An interior shot of the Guest rental suite available to tenants of Gardens On Tenth

Corporate supporters of the Gardens On Tenth project got a first hand look at Altona's newest seniors housing facility. The board of directors hosted a tour of the four story, 66 suite building late last week.

Fundraising director Menno Friesen says the local business community has played an important role in the success of this project.

"The generosity of the business community helped us make this project a reality, and we appreciate their vision and the fact that they care about what this community needs in order to continue growing."

Gardens On Tenth is an independent living facility that consists of 66 suites with a variety of floor plans that are laid out over four stories. Some of the tenants have already moved into the building, although some construction work remains to be completed. Friesen was asked about the response they've received from those tenants.

"By and large, nothing but complimentary remarks. Now, when you build something new like this, there will always be some minor issues, but overall response to the spacious hallways, the lighting, the dining room and all the other features has been very good."

The building cost about $18 million dollars to construct, and the $3 million dollar fundraising campaign, which represents the community portion of the funds required to build the facility, is still active.

"We're still a little bit short, so we're still open for donations, but it's very encouraging and the community has been very generous."
