The six week stint as Acting Health Minister has come to an end for Manitoba's Deputy Premier.

Kelvin Goertzen took on that position May 21st, as the result of Health and Seniors Care Minister Heather Stefanson undergoing a necessary medical procedure as recommended by her physician.

On Wednesday, Manitoba Premier Brian Pallister welcomed Stefanson back to the post.

"We're excited to have you back," says Pallister.

Pallister also showed his appreciation to the work of Goertzen in the interim.

"Sincere thank you to our Deputy Premier Kelvin Goertzen for filling in in the interim period, great to have you," says Pallister. "You are a tremendous public servant and we thank you for your work."

Goertzen made the following post to his Facebook page on Wednesday:

"My six week stint as Interim Health Minster has come to an end. I would like to thank the great staff in the Department of Health who I enjoyed reconnecting with. Health is always a dynamic file, especially in these times. I'm glad to see that we are in a much improved situation with restrictions loosening, as well as averting a potential labour action by Manitoba Nurses. I am especially glad to welcome back my colleague and friend Heather Stefanson and am glad she has made a full recovery from her surgical procedure. Her experience around the Cabinet table is invaluable and great to see her return!"

"Just continue to remain as dedicated as you have always been to the future of the people of Manitoba," adds Pallister. "And we thank you both very, very much for your service."
