The weekend's high winds certainly took their toll on flooded or nearly flooded roads in the Municipality of Emerson-Franklin.

Reeve Dave Carlson reports waves created by the wind caused erosion, washouts and pushed water further into areas that had not been flooded. Debris that is a mix of straw and driftwood has also been pushed into the edge of roadways, and Carlson says that will make for a big clean up in ditches and culverts once the water recedes.

Meantime, the Reeve says this week's rainy weather is not welcome as it will probably prolong the flood and further delay road openings and repairs, and keep farmers off their fields longer.

As of yesterday, the Red River at Emerson was near-peak at 790.77 feet. That is 5 feet below the community's dike level.

Carlson says the Municipality is holding its own against the flood waters but notes, officials are ready to respond should conditions change for the worse.
