On a hot and windy Friday afternoon, crosstown rivals Garden Valley Collegiate and Northlands Parkway Collegiate took to the ball diamond in a Softball City Classic.

NPC Grade 12 student Annika Roberts said it was something she'd been envisioning for a while.

"Really close game. We know a lot of these people from minor ball so it was a fun game."

While the weather was hot, the action on the field was also heated. It was a back-and-forth game ending with GVC taking the win 9-6.

Students from both schools were invited to watch the game.

"We had a few fan buses, and GVC people walked out and it was great to have the support."
