Payton Leflar of the Morris Mavericks varsity girls volleyball team is the MHSAA's Rural High School Athlete of the Week.

The grade 10 setter/right side hitter helped the Mavericks win their home tournament and place third at the Deloraine Colts tourney.

"Payton already understands the game better than most, and outworks the competition on a daily basis," said Mavs coach Scott Stevenson. "She is a natural leader on the court and excels at both setter and right side. Her consistent play is invaluable to the team. At the start of a game, or game point, she is able to consistently perform under pressure. She’s been an integral part of her team’s success this year."

Leflar maintains a 92% academic average, while also participating in badminton.
