The president of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 160 located in Dominion City is happy with their membership numbers this year. In past years the Legion has faced a membership decline, but this year numbers appear to be holding, according to President Mike Noonan.

At one time the Dominion City Legion had over two hundred members and is now operating with less than a hundred.
"There is a variety of reasons for people to come and go, often for personal reasons." says Noonan.

At one time you had to be an ancestor of a veteran to be a member of a legion, but now with dwindling numbers in participation across the province, legions are open to the public. Anyone willing to serve and show respect on a volunteer basis is welcome to apply to be a legion member.

Annually legions across the province hold the Poppy Campaign to honor those who serve, and to raise funds in support of veterans and their families. Starting with the last Friday in October to Remembrance Day, all Canadians can take part by wearing a poppy, attending a ceremony or showing their recognition for those who gave their lives for our Freedom.

Look for donation boxes in local grocery stores and businesses filled with poppies. Take one and make a donation. All funds raised will go directly back to veterans and their families.
