McDonald's in Morden officially opened its brand new 3,000 sq. ft. restaurant Friday morning.

Owner/operator Scott Robertson notes they have hired 15 new employees who received training at a Winnipeg location ahead of the grand opening. He adds as part of Friday's festivities they are offering a number of promotions all day and throughout the week to celebrate the new location.

For Robertson, however, the McDonald's franchise is more than just a restaurant, but a legacy of serving the community.

His father, Lyle, first opened the McDonald's location in Winkler in 1985. Then in 1996, the family opened a Morden location at the rec centre before opening a stand-alone restaurant in 2006.

Growing up, Robertson explains he worked closely with his father and eventually took over as franchisee and owner/operator in 2005. For over 35 years, Robertson says they've continually looked to improve and better serve their customers by listening to local feedback.

"The one constant at McDonald's is change," he says, adding over the years they've seen many renovations, new menu items and the incorporation of new technology and services.

Through it all, he says they're grateful for the decades of community support they've received by long-time customers.

Robertson says watching the iconic Golden Arches go up in Morden was an especially proud moment together with his dad.

"It causes you to reflect, it was definitely a heartfelt moment."
