Harvesting in the region has begun.

Wes Martens farms east of Altona.

He started combining his perennial rye grass on Thursday.

He says its too early to tell but he thinks the recent dry conditions may have hurt the yield.

Laverne Siemens farms near Horndean.

He says they harvested their winter wheat earlier this week.

He notes the wheat was short this year with lots of heads.

He explains the field received some timely rain so the heat did not hurt the yield.

Siemens says they will also be combining caraway in the next few days.
