They are one of the largest land animals in North America, a symbol of Canada's wild countryside and Thursday morning one was caught on camera east of Gnadenthal.

Christine Doerksen sent the above picture to PembinaValleyOnline, noting she quickly snapped the photo of the moose around 9:20 a.m. along Provincial Road 201 eastbound, just west of the PR 306 junction.

"This was the first time I have ever seen one," said Doerksen. "All I thought was what an incredible creature God has created! With such power and grace all in one."

She said it was an incredible sight.

Moose sightings are reported periodically in the region. According to the Province of Manitoba's Moose Fact Sheet, "Until recently, there has been only an occasional report of moose in the prairie region of southern Manitoba, but populations have now become established in the Pembina and Souris River Valleys."
