With orientation and training completed, members of Citizens On Patrol (COPP) are now on the streets of Morden.

Shane Houser is the COPP coordinator.

“We have a total of ten volunteers now, which is about the average for most groups across Manitoba. I was really impressed with the amount of people that we actually got and the excitement and eagerness to get going too.”

The hour-long virtual training session covered the general aspects of doing patrols and note-taking.

While the public may not see them, but Houser says members are out there patrolling and keeping an eye on things.

“Hopefully that puts some peoples mind at ease and others I hope it makes them watch over their shoulders.”

Houser adds they’re always looking for more help.

“The more eyes and ears that we have, the more patrols that we can get out there would really increase the deterrence for people to do things.”

Volunteer applications are available at the Morden Police station. Applicants must be 18 years of age and a member of the community with a clean Criminal Record.
