An official with the Central Regional Health Authority says there's an increasing trend in the number of surgeries conducted.

Eileen Vodden -- program leader for acute care -- explains the RHA has been seeing jumps of over 300 surgeries each year.

Total hip and knee replacements, pregnancy-related procedures, and gall bladder removals top the list of common surgeries.

Vodden links the increase in surgery to an ageing population, adding their wait lists consists mostly of seniors.

Still, Vodden says the Central RHA is meeting both provincial and federal wait time targets.

There were over 56 hundred surgeries conducted in 2006, compared to 52 hundred the year before.
