Alex Lamoureux

This Thanksgiving weekend Miami hosted the 38th Annual Fun and Fiddle Festival. As in years past old-time music fans and performers of all ages gathered for jam sessions and competitions. Alex Lamoureux, who grew up in Manitoba, tells us why coming back to the Miami event is important to him.

Lamoureux comes from a family of fiddlers, and was ranked in the top 10 fiddlers overall at the Canadian Grand Masters National Fiddling Championship 2008 & 2009. He tells us he enjoys competing in the Metis class as he did over the weekend, because it goes back to the basics of just fiddle music and footwork.

Lamoureux adds he looks forward to gigs and competitions, and says he will be able to play his fiddle everyday now that he is teaching music full time. He now lives in B.C. but shares he is looking forward to returning to Manitoba with his newly formed band to play during the Festival du Voyageur.
