Changes are now underway at Morden's Tabor Home, with increased visitation in conjunction with the provinces phase four reopening.

Residents are incredibly excited about this new step since the pandemic started, says CEO Carolyn Fenny. With fewer restrictions, Tabor home will now allow two designated family caregivers to enter Tabor home and a resident's private room. Previously visitation could only occur outside the building for 15 to 20 minutes. Not only is this exciting for residents and staff, but Fenny also believes this will be a big deal for families.

"It's a real positive change, and it's going to mean opportunities for others to visit as well. With designated family caregivers having more access on a greater number of days without making an appointment, it will leave more standard appointment times for visits for other people."

Also, Tabor Home will be able to accommodate four visitors at a time outside the building.

"It's new for everyone, and when things are new, there can be a bit of apprehension or uncertainty of what things mean. However, there's also a lot of excitement. We're all trying to figure out how we can ensure we have met the public health order and the safety of residents, staff, and of course, the visitors."

However, with flu season around the corner, Fenny says things are going to look different than the typical year. Whether it's COVID related or influenza, Fenny says they will be encouraging everyone who will be visiting to get their flu shot, and to make sure they're following public health orders. If someone is sick, she asks they do not come to Tabor, and stay home as they are taking the situation very seriously, and will do what they can to keep people safe.

Overall, Fenny asks everyone for their patience as Tabor slowly figures out this new system. She says it may take some time for them to catch up, but they are doing everything they can to be forward-thinking, and follow all public health orders.
