Altona police have charged a 25 year old man with break, enter and theft following an overnight break in at the local liquor store.

Officers responded to an alarm at the business around 2:30 a.m. Sunday morning and upon arrival, noticed the glass front door had been smashed with a heavy object. It was quickly determined that about $500 in hard liquor had been stolen.

Then just before noon that same day, police were called to remove an unwanted, highly intoxicated person from a local apartment, however he was gone when officers arrived. The man was tracked to another home, but before police could enter they had to extinguish a fire caused by meat left on two overheated stove elements.

The suspect was found passed out in the home. He was arrested and charged in the liquor store theft and released on a Promise to Appear with a future court date in Altona.

However, police don't believe the man acted alone and continue to investigate with further charges expected.

Residents and businesses are again reminded to protect themselves by ensuring alarms and camera systems are functioning properly.
