Justin Odlum hit a 3RBI walk off single to defeat the Altona Bisons 9-8 and sweep the best-of-three opening round series.

"Just trying to get a pitch to hit and do something with it and it found the barrel I guess," said Odlum. ''It feels great to be able to take Altona in two. We get to save a games worth of pitching and the next series is coming pretty soon. So it's big."

Altona kicked things off with a pair of runs in the first inning and held onto that 2-0 lead until the third when Pembina Valley was able to knot the game up at two.

Then in the fifth, the Orioles would knock in two more to go up 4-2. The Bisons replied right the next inning and once again the game was tied.

"Both teams had a solid defence, solid hitting and hitting at the right times to generate runs is huge," said Bisons manager Doug Rempel. ''To be able to see that in a ball game is fun to be a part of, but it's more fun to be on the winning end of it. It just didn't work out that way this time."

Ty Enns pitched six innings giving up four runs on six hits, walked three and added five K's along the way. Branden Hatley came in for the 7th inning and couldn't find his rhythm and left the game with the bases loaded for Seth Staple. He allowed four runs to come across before getting his team back into the dugout.

Pembina Valley would give up four runs in the top of the seventh and trail 8-4.

Bisons' starter Josh Friesen took the loss in a complete game effort after the Orioles rallied back in the bottom of the seventh inning. Pembina Valley brought one run in before getting the bases loaded with one out and Odlum up at the plate, with the winning run of first. Odlum would hit a ball over the right fielders head cashing all three Orioles to win the game.

Up next for Pembina Valley is the first place St. James A's, who had a first round bye. Game one goes in Winnipeg Sunday afternoon.
