Although a water shortage is not anticipated this spring, the Pembina Valley Water Co-op (PVWC) is making a special request of pool owners in the City of Winkler.

The PVWC is asking residents with pools to fill them up by Saturday, June 4th. Although not a requirement, it would be prudent to do so when flows are relatively low at the Co-op & Winkler Water Treatment plants.

The agricultural irrigation season will be upon us soon, and Winkler Mayor Martin Harder says increasing water usage, especially during irrigation season will only put an additional burden on the system. "So the idea now is to make sure that you fill your pool before the burden gets heavier from the agricultural side."

"The water going into pools is purified water and it's drinking water, and in essence. And so, therefore, it's important not to overload the system. . . just asking people to recognize the fact that there are different uses on that system, and to utilize it when it's appropriate to utilize it."
