The Winnipeg Blue Bombers face the Hamilton Tiger-Cats tonight (7:30 p.m.) at IG Field. The defending Grey Cup champions are 2-0 after sweeping the Ottawa Redblacks in their home-and-home series to start the 2022 CFL season. The Blue Bombers, who have won 11 straight home games, will be without cornerback Winston Rose, centre Michael Couture, defensive tackle Ricky Walker, defensive back Souleymane Karamoko and linebacker Les Maruo. Couture, injured in last week’s win in Ottawa, has been moved to the six-game injured list with an arm injury, while Rose was place on the one-game injured list. Added to the roster are defensive end Thiadric Hansen, offensive lineman Liam Dobson, defensive back Evan Holm, linebacker Malik Clements and fullback Konner Burtenshaw. Chris Kolankowski will make his first start at centre and Demerio Houston starts in Rose’s place at cornerback.


The Winnipeg Jets will showcase their top prospects at the South Okanagan Events Centre in Penticton, B.C. this September. The 2022 Young Stars Classic will see the Jets, Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers and Vancouver Canucks play one another once. Eighteen players who featured in games for the Jets in 2021-22 have played for the club in rookie tournaments in the past including Eric Comrie, Kyle Connor, Nikolaj Ehlers, Connor Hellebuyck, Adam Lowry, Josh Morrissey, and Mark Scheifele. This will be the seventh time the Jets are taking part in the Young Stars Classic. The Jets have participated since  their inaugural season in 2011-12 with the exception of 2012 when the event was cancelled due to the NHL's work stoppage; 2019 when the event was not held and 2020 when the event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Winnipeg will face Calgary on September 16th; Vancouver on September 18th and Edmonton on September 19th. 


Olivier Nadeau scored the go-ahead goal on the power play 7:06 into the third period as the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League champion Shawinigan Cataractes defeated the Ontario Hockey League champion Hamilton Bulldogs 3-2 at the Memorial Cup in Saint John, New Brunswick. The Bulldogs (0-2-0) face the Western Hockey League champion Edmonton Oil Kings (1-1-0) tonight while the host St. John Seadogs (1-0-1) take on the Cataractes (2-0) in the round robin finale on Saturday.


Week four of the Prairie Putter Men's Golf League wrapped up Thursday in Morden. Minnewasta and Bridges tied at six points each. Carman and Scotswood Links were winners on Monday. Carman defeated Winkler eight points to four and it was Scotswood Links over Portage nine-and-a-half points to two-and-a-half points.


Connor Cory struck out nine A's over five innings as the Altona Bisons shutdown St. James 10-0 Thursday night at Optimist Park. The Bisons, who banged out a season high 12 hits in the win, improved their MJBL record to 8-6.


The Winnipeg Goldeyes wrapped up their three-game series in Cleburne with a 9-2 victory over the Railroaders. David Washington and Max Murphy belted three-run homers for the Fish who open a three-game series against the Saltdogs in Lincoln tonight.
