The Altona Bisons swept a doubleheader from the Pembina Valley Orioles Sunday at Buhler Field in Morden. Ethan Giesbrecht went all seven innings and struck out 10 and Trent Peters homered twice as the Bisons took the opener 6-0. Bryson Loewen scored from third base on a wild pitch in the top of the eighth inning as Altona won the second game 7-6. The Bisons are in third place in the Manitoba Junior Baseball League with a 10-6 record. The Orioles, who have lost five in a row, are 7-10 on the season.


The Winnipeg Goldeyes wrapped up their six-game road trip with a 6-1 victory over the Lincoln Saltdogs. Max Murphy had a two-run homer for the Fish who have won five in a row. Winnipeg will begin a three-game series with the American Association's West Division leading Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks on Tuesday at Shaw Park.


It's the midway point of the Prairie Putter Men's Golf League schedule. There are three matches today with Minnewasta facing Scotswood Links at Elm Creek, Portage visits Carman and Winkler hosts Bridges.


The Winkler Storm and Luso Canadian CCS played to a 2-2 draw Sunday at the Winkler Recreation Complex. Jan Heide and Amjad Kissaniye did the goal scoring for the Storm who have one win, two losses and one tie in the Manitoba Major Soccer League's Premier Division. 


The PV Reds U18 girls team was shutout 4-0 by BoniVital in Carman. Daria Reimer, McKenna Bateman, Ali Staples and Mattea Lussier-Bullaro did the goal scoring for the visiting Flames. The Reds will face Lindenwoods in Carman on Tuesday, July 5th and then take most of the summer off and resume play in the Winnipeg Youth Soccer Association in September. 


Cala Korman of the Killarney Lakeside golf club shot a final round four-over par 76 and won the Women’s City & District Championship Sunday at La Broquerie Golf. Korman finished with a 36-hole total of 153 which was three strokes better than Jill Hardy of Niakwa. Adam Blair of Pinawa  won the Junior Men’s Division. Jewel Lafleche of Clear Lake Golf Course captured the Junior Women’s Division. Kristian Hammerback won the All Abilities Championship and Patrick Cloutier finished first in the Special Olympics Division.
