Grady Chuback, Bryson Harder, Jack Taylor and Payne Wood of St. Paul’s and Addison Kartusch, Madison Karpowicz and Elle Wood of St. Mary’s captured the Provincial High School Golf Championships Friday at the Carman golf course. Ryan Orchard (77), Jaron Johnson (84), Reid North (86) and Kierson North (91) of Carman, who qualified for the Provincials as the host team, finished 28 shots back of St. Paul’s in fourth place. Carson Inman (81), Thomas Zatina (92), Hunter Jeffries (94) and Ethan Breaky (96) of Portage Collegiate finished in seventh place 48 shots back. India Young (89), Keira Krahn (91) and Shaela Hayward (118) of Carman Collegiate finished 23 shots back of St. Mary’s in third place.


Malachi Klassen made 25 saves and Mike Svenson scored his fifth goal of the season as the Winkler Flyers edged the Nighthawks 3-2 in Niverville. Xyon Kiemeney and Logan Fillion also scored for the Flyers who host the OCN Blizzard tonight.


The Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League season begins today. The defending champion Winnipeg Wild face the Parkland Rangers in Dauphin and the Norman Northstars take on the Kenora Thistles in Thompson. The Pembina Valley Hawks play their season opener next Friday against the Wild at Bell MTS Iceplex.


It’s day three of Winnipeg Jets training camp. Team Hawerchuk will practice at 10 a.m. and Team Steen will hit the ice at noon. The second scrimmage of camp is scheduled for 11 a.m. The Jets play their first of six exhibition games Sunday against the Oilers in Edmonton.


Reid Carruthers and Matt Dunstone have qualified for the men’s Final 4 at the 2022 PointsBet Invitational in Fredericton. Carruthers outscored Kevin Koe of Calgary 8-6 while Dunstone downed Glenn Howard of Penetanguishene 8-7. Carruthers will face Brad Gushue of St. John’s and Dunstone will take on Brendan Bottcher of Calgary. Kaitlyn Lawes, Kerri Einarson and Jennifer Jones are into the women’s Final 4. Lawes defeated Penny Barker of Moose Jaw 9-4; Einarson downed Kelsey Rocque of Edmonton 10-5 and Jones outscored Selena Sturmay of Edmonton 11-9. Lawes will face Team Casey Scheidegger of Lethbridge skipped by Kristie Moore while Einarson will meet Jones.
