Marco Trstenjak of Elmhurst, Jay Doyle of Niakwa and Addison Kartusch of St. Charles were Men’s, Senior Men’s and Women’s medalists at the 2022 Manitoba Match Play Qualifiers Saturday at the Carman golf course. Trstenjak, won captured the 2020 Provincial Men’s Amateur Championship at Glendale, was three-under par 68 and earned the number one seed for the Manitoba Match Play Championships June 2nd-5th at Quarry Oaks near Steinbach. Doyle was one-over par 72 and Kartusch was five-over par 76. India Young of Carman was 17-over par 88 and qualified in the women’s division.


The Dauphin Kings lost out in the semifinals at the 2022 Centennial Cup National Junior “A” Hockey Championship Saturday night in Estevan. Zachary Roy stopped all 32 shots he faced as the Pickering Panthers shutout the Manitoba Junior Hockey League champion Kings 2-0. Dauphin netminder Carson Cherepak made 27 saves. The Ontario Junior Hockey League champions will meet the Brooks Bandits in the championship game today at 5 p.m. Aiden Fink had a goal and four assists as the Alberta Junior Hockey League champions defeated College Francais de Longueuil 11-2.


Canada will meet host Finland in the gold medal game at the 2022 World Men’s Hockey Championship in Tampere. Dylan Cozens had two goals and an assist as Team Canada downed the Czech Republic 6-1. Finland shaded the United States 4-3 in the other semifinal.


The Winnipeg Blue Bombers signed offensive lineman Cameron Durley and Canadian defensive end Rossini Sandjong Durley comes to Winnipeg after a solid four-year college career with the Tennessee State Tigers. During his standout season in 2019, Durley helped the offensive unit to an average of 400.1 yards per game ranking third in the conference. Sandjong joins the Blue Bombers after a four-year university career with the York Lions. Sandjong was selected in the seventh round, 59th overall by the Edmonton Elks in the 2020 CFL Draft and appeared in five games during the 2021 season. The Blue Bombers also released defensive backs Mike Hampton, Marlon Character and Evan Holm, defensive linemen Alfred Green and Will Evans along with receiver Keyion Dixon. Winnipeg will play its final pre-season game Tuesday in Regina against the Saskatchewan Roughriders.


The Winnipeg Goldeyes gave up four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning and lost 5-2 to the Lincoln Saltdogs. David Washington and Reggie Pruitt Jr. had solo home runs for the Fish who wrap up their 10-game road trip today in Lincoln.
