Paul Maurice is the new head coach of the Florida Panthers. Maurice was 315-223-62 in 600 games behind the Winnipeg Jets bench, including 13-10-5 record this season before resigning on December 17th after nine seasons with the hockey club. Maurice replaces Andrew Brunette, who went 51-18-6 and guided the Panthers to the Presidents' Trophy. Brunette was runner-up for the Jack Adams Award as coach of the year.


Jaxsen Wiebe scored his third goal of the game in overtime to lift the Western Hockey League champion Edmonton Oil Kings past the host Saint John Sea Dogs 4-3 at the Memorial Cup in New Brunswick. 


Dylan Meilun will play hockey at the University of Wisconsin Superior this fall. The 20-year-old Morden native spent three seasons with the Manitoba Junior Hockey League's Winkler Flyers. Meilun posted a goals against average of 3.35 and a save percentage of .890 in 58 games.


The Pembina Valley Orioles and Altona Bisons both lost home games Wednesday night. The Orioles fell 11-4 to the St. James A's at Buhler Field while the Bisons dropped a 7-6 decision to the Carillon Sultans. Pembina Valley saw its record fall to 7-8. The Bisons, who are 7-6, will face St. James tonight at Optimist Park. The A's are 9-2 and tied with the defending Elmwood Giants for top spot in the Manitoba Junior Baseball League.


Max Murphy had three hits and Ian Sagdal had four rbi as the Winnpeg Goldeyes downed Cleburne14-7. The Fish and Railroaders wrap up their three game series tonight Texas.


The Winnipeg Blue Bombers released American offensive lineman Cam Durley from the practice roster. The Bombers will put their 2-0 record on the line Friday night when they face the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at IG Field.


Week four of the Prairie Putter Men's Golf League schedule wraps up today as Minnewasta hosts Bridges. Carman and Scotswood Links were winners on Monday. Carman defeated Winkler eight points to four and it was Scotswood Links over Portage nine-and-a-half points to two-and-a-half points.
