Team Canada has a 1-1 record at the 2022 World U18 Women's Hockey Championship in Madison, Wisconsin. Rhea Hicks of Brampton scored twice and Mari Pietersen of Goodwood, Ont. made 33 saves as Canada downed Sweden 3-1. Team Canada will play its final preliminary round game Thursday against the United States. 


The Provincial High School Track & Field Championships begin Thursday afternoon at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg with 100 and 400 metre heats. The 1500 metre finals and medley relay finals for junior varsity and varsity boys & girls will take place tomorrow night. Long jump, javelin, high jump and shot put qualifying will also be held Thursday. 1,500 athletes are expected to competed at the Provincials which is being held for the first time since June of 2019. The 2020 and 2021 Provincial High School Track & Field championships were cancelled due to COVID.


Luis Ramirez has been named the American Association’s Pitcher of the Week. The Winnipeg Goldeyes righthander won both his starts as he worked 12 innings and allowed just two runs on four hits while striking out 15 batters. The 29-year-old native of Loma de Cabrera, Dominican Republic is in the starting rotation for the first time in his career after making 152 relief appearances in the Arizona and Colorado minor league systems. The Fish open a two-game series against the Monarchs in Kansas City tonight. 


Twenty Canadians are in the field for the 2022 RBC Canadian Open which begins Thursday morning at the St. George’s Golf & Country Club in Etobicoke, Ontario. Aaron Cockerill of Stony Mountain is in the field as a sponsor’s exemption. The former Manitoba Junior champion will be playing his first PGA TOUR event. Cockerill finished in a tie for third place at the ISPS Handa Championship in Spain back in April and is currently 42nd on the DP World Tour rankings.
