The deciding third game of the South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League’s Survivor Series between the Winkler Royals and Notre Dame Hawks was postponed for the second night in a row. The league has not announced a date for game three which will be held in Winkler. The winner of the Survivor Series will meet the Portage Islanders in the semifinals. The Morden Bombers host the Warren Mercs Tuesday night in game one of their semi.

 

Slade Sotheran had three goals and two assists as the Carman Cougars downed the Morris Mavericks 8-1 in game one of their best-of-three Zone 4 High School Hockey League quarterfinal. Antony Lehmann and Ryan Orchard added two goals each for the visiting Cougars. The other Carman goal went to Coltyn Plaintin. Hayden Peters had the lone goal for the Mavs.


The Pembina Valley Hawks season is over. Pembina Valley dropped a 6-3 decision to the Yellowhead Chiefs Sunday in Morden. Tyler Moroz, Logan Fillion and Carter Campbell did the goal scoring for the Hawks who finished the 2021-2022 Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League season in ninth place with a record of 15-23-2.

 

Logan Enns stopped all 27 shots he faced as the Pembina Valley Twisters blanked the Stonewall Jets 5-0 at Veterans Memorial Arena. TJ Matuszweski scored his team leading 32nd and 33rd goals of the season and assisted on both of Nathan Ayotte’s second period goals. Travis Penner also scored for the Twisters who moved within six points of the Manitoba Major Junior Hockey League leading St. James Canucks.

 

Portage la Prairie’s Dean Stewart scored the tying goal on the power play with 1:55 left in regulation and Jeff Malott potted the winner 1:45 into overtime as the Manitoba Moose shaded the Milwaukee Admirals 4-3 at Canada Life Centre. Leon Gawanke and Cole Maier also scored in regulation for the Moose.

 

The Winnipeg Goldeyes signed right-handed pitchers Zac Ryan and Erasmo Pinales. Ryan returns to the Goldeyes after joining the ball club in August of 2021. The Merrillville, Indiana native opened the season with the Los Angeles Angels Triple-A team in Salt Lake City. Pinales last pitched in 2019 where he posted a 4.00 ERA with 31 strickouts in 18 relief innings for the Houston Astros Double-A Corpus Christi Hooks. The Goldeyes now have 13 players signed to contracts for the 2022 season. American Association clubs may carry up to 30 players during spring training which begins May 5th.
