The Stanley Agricultural Society recently welcomed a new Board President.

Joining the board in 2015, and letting his name stand for President last year, Toban Dyck says it's been a great experience in the political grassroots role.

"Seeing a need for change, it's exciting to be a part of that," he says.

A writer, Dyck moved back to Winkler in 2012 to help with the family farm and continues to work in communications including as an ag columnist.

The greatest challenge and opportunity facing the society is the upcoming sale of land and possible move.

"We think of new land, new possibilities, it's a real blank slate," Dyck says.

Like many ag societies across the country, their mission continues to revolve around teaching country living and promote agriculture.

"If we move out of the city, we are possibly in the R.M of Stanley and we could service a larger area in terms of educating," he says.

Negotiations continue between the Stanley Agricultural Society and the City of Winkler over the land surrounding the proposed Meridian Exhibition Centre expansion.

The city needs possession of the land before construction can take place.

However, the agricultural society has requested more time to find a new home.

The City of Winkler hopes to expand the current arena into a multi-turf recreation complex onto what is now the Stanley Agricultural grounds
