The Western School Division is hoping to house two of its vocational programs under one roof.

The division was given the green light by the province to begin the design stage for a proposed addition to its welding shop facility located on North Railway Street and 5th Street in Morden.

Superintendent Stephen Ross says the extra space would allow them to move their piping trades program into that building.

"When we began our piping trades program a number of years ago in the community development incubator mall we knew that was a short-term possibility and so we were quite pleased about this opportunity to consider the design phase for a permanent home for that program."

Ross says building an addition to the welding shop makes a lot of sense.

"That would be similar to a number of other vocational sites in the region that have had additions where there are a couple of complimentary programs working together."

The piping trades program has seen continued enrollment increases since its inception, according to Ross.

He notes, while the division received funding for the design stage of this project, there is no guarantee the province will move forward to the construction stage.
