The first few weeks of school have been interesting, to say the least, but Stephen Ross, Superintendent for Western School Division says it's been a successful start.

"Certainly there are challenges for everybody when things don't work the way they used to. I'm sure there are children, staff, and parents who like things predictable - the way they were in the past."

Ross says they're figuring out different ways to continue education as students jump from in-classroom to at-home and everything in between.

"All of the above to be quite honest. The 9-12's are attending school every second day and learning at home the other day. All the K-8 students are attending school every day."

As well, they have some students who have been approved for remote learning due to being immunocompromised or having relatives that are.

"We appreciate everybody's patience as we all figure this out together. I can say there's likely going to be more changes ahead."

Between school buses, and classroom space, he says they'll give good notice to anyone impacted by changes as they come, but they're ready to take on the challenge.

"We're constantly going to be readjusting plans and changing plans and things as we get different public health orders, and as schools best figure out how to operate in this environment," says Ross.
