According to RCMP, an 11-year-old boy received serious injuries following an accident Wednesday evening near the Village of Osterwick, which is located about six miles southwest of the City of Winkler.

The accident happened around 8:30 p.m.

STARS Air Ambulance was dispatched and arrived on scene at 9:21 p.m.

The helicopter flew the youth to Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg in serious condition.

RCMP say the youth was travelling west on Provincial Road 201 on a dirt bike, when he was struck from behind by a car travelling in the same direction.

Police say the 22 year old male driver of the car was uninjured.

RCMP note alcohol was not a factor.

A forensic collision reconstructionist is assisting Morden RCMP in the on-going investigation.
