Roland held it’s annual Fireman’s Picnic on Friday, June 15th at the Roland Arena and the attendance was incredible.

The fundraiser started at 5pm with a supper by donation, water games for the kids, an auction with prizes such as lawn chairs, tool kits, fire pits, kids toys, and more.

Chief Don Roy, who has been with the department for ten years, explained how the money raised was going to be spent on new equipment for the Roland fire hall.

With nearly 200 people and 17 firefighters in attendance Roy says he's sure there was more money raised this year than last year’s $3500.00

Firefighter John Heide who just passed his firefighter training Level One, mentioned that he had always wanted to be a firefighter since he was a little boy. “Don’t all little boys dream of becoming firemen?” he said during my interview with him.

The firefighters are very thankful for everyone who showed up to help support the local fire hall and also those that made the drive out from further away.
