A lot happened at the Altona MEC Centre on Wednesday, June 14th.  The Town of Altona held a Canada 150th Anniversary Celebration to, you guessed it, celebrate Canada’s 150th Birthday!

The celebration started at one with storytelling and the opening  of the Pavilions. Kids of all ages came out with their classes to learn about Canada and the different cultures within it.

There were many Pavilions to go and check out. There was a Pavilion for the Altona Panthers, who had Valerie Delorme present, showing people the medals she won during the time she went to the National and World Special Olympic games.

There was a Pavilion open for the Sunflower Queens, which displayed the dresses of past Sunflower Queen’s all the way to the most recent one from 2016.

There was free gelato served throughout the day, and free sausage burgers and fries by Smokin Haut for supper. There were performances by the W.C Miller Band and Choir, a Canada 150 book launch by Friesens, a performance by the Asham Stompers, and many more events.

The evening was ended with the Burial of the 2017 team time capsule in the Altona Park.

Even though the weather wasn’t on our side that day, everyone who came enjoyed a great day celebrating our country and learning more about it.
