Thursday evening Morning Show Co-Hosts Jayme Giesbrecht and Chris Sumner hosted CFAM’s First Day of Summer BBQ at our studios in Altona, and the weather couldn’t have been more perfect! The music was really great, too, with past Made in Manitoba guest Kenzie Jane entertaining the families who stopped by for a free hot dog, chips and gelato.

Just over a month ago Kenzie released her debut album titled “Love Me From Scratch”, and Chris took a moment to chat with her about the reception to her work.

Golden West is proud to support local musical talent across Southern Manitoba, and Thursday night was a special evening for us, because we had the opportunity to present a Canadian Content Development grant to Kenzie (or

Kenzie with CFAM Radio 950 Station Manager Ang Enns MacKenzie Friesen as she’s known by those she grew up with in Altona).

“It means everything, especially as a student coming out of university, and just starting to work up my account again,” said Kenzie when Chris asked her to reflect on what it meant to receive the financial support at this early stage in her career. “It is super, super helpful. I’m going on a tour this Summer, and it’s going to help fund that, so I’m really greatful for that support in that way, and thank you very much!”

Kenzie will be promoting her debut album “Love Me From Scratch”, on that first tour later this year which will include stops in B.C., the Yukon, and then eastward. Congratulations!

And thank you to the hundreds of our listeners who joined us for the First Day of Summer BBQ. We had a beautiful evening together!
