Eden Health Care Services based in Winkler, but serving a wide swath of Southern Manitoba including Winnipeg, is preparing to host its 50th anniversary galas later this week. In 1967 Eden received its charter to begin operating a mental health hospital in Winkler, and since then, the breadth of the work it does has continued to expand both in terms of scope and community.

The organization is holding gala events at Winkler Bergthaler Mennonite Church Thursday, November 9th, and Friday, November 10th at North Kildonan Mennonite Church in Winnipeg. Both evenings will feature Madame Margaret Trudeau as the keynote speaker, someone who is very familiar with mental illness having lived with bipolar disorder for many years.

Reporter Candace Derksen had the chance to speak with Margaret Tuesday afternoon.

Margaret's courage to write about and share what her mental health journey has been like has empowered many to embark on their own path of seeking help. Mme. Trudeau also reflected on how, in the past, she’s talked about how the pathway to recovering from a mental illness is first deciding you need to get better, and also seek help.

There still are limited tickets available for both evenings, and you can get yours today by Eden Health Care Services at 204-325-5355.
