The 4th annual Morden Polar Plunge in support of Special Olympics Manitoba happened Saturday afternoon outside the Access Event Centre. Thirty-eight brave plungers made the chilly decision to walk up the scaffolding, and take

Dr. Ben Lulashnyk speaking with Chris Sumner a dive into the giant freezing cold pool of water.

At plunge time right around 230, it was about -16 with a windchill around 22... so it was definitely a Polar Plunge for sure. Morning Show Co-host Chris Sumner MC’d the event, and after everyone had made it back inside and warmed up I spoke with Organizer Constable Scott Edwards about how successful a day it was.

Chris also spoke with Dr. Ben Lulashnyk, a first time plunger from the C.W. Wiebe Medical Clinic who also was the top individual fundraiser of the Morden Polar Plunge at over $2,000.

Special Olympics Manitoba C.E.O. and President Jennifer Campbell was also at the Polar Plunge Saturday, and Chris took a moment to catch up with her to talk about the importance of the events across the province, and their growing popularity.

The money raised will support Special Olympics Manitoba athletes in Winkler, Morden, Altona and throughout Central Region as they pursue their dreams through sport. The final numbers are still being tallied, but it’s looking like nearly $20,000 was raised this year!
