This past weekend was the 2017 Manitoba Sunflower festival. It was a fantastic weekend with lots of food, music, and events happening all over town. Even though it was really warm and humid outside, people from all over came to take part in the festival.

On Friday, the festival started off with a bang with a Kickoff BBQ at the Altona Mall Parking Lot. All proceeds went to the YFC Station in Altona.

The petting zoo, inflatables, mobile escape room, and food trucks all opened up on Friday as well as the Queen Contestant Speeches being presented to anyone who wanted to hear them.

Friday evening opened up with the crowning of the 2017 Miss People’s Choice and Miss Congeniality as well as a performance by ‘The Travellin’ Band. The whole night ended with a fireworks display.

On Saturday, the day started bright and early at 7:30am in the morning with a free pancake breakfast. After the breakfast there was a giant commercial parade, which was a big hit.

Saturday afternoon was filled with kids entertainment, Sunflower Queen Pageant Fashion Show, Quilt show, Gallery in the Park, and many other fun activities. There was also baseball in the park that many people enjoyed to watch.

The evening was filled with a stage show. The band “Golden Road” performed and the Crowning of the 2017 Manitoba Sunflower Queen ended the night.

Sunday morning started us off with a Community Service in the park. Then after lunch a bunch of performers filled the afternoon.

The first performer was Matt Falk a comedian who made us fall out of our chairs from making us laugh so hard.

Then we had the Dirty Catfish Brass Band bringing us some jazzy tunes. Richard Inman came after with relaxing folk songs, Kenzie Jane made our feet tap to amazing covers, and to end off the afternoon, Lindsay Rae and her band rocked out to some country.

The Festival was a huge hit and people can’t wait till it comes back again next year.
