He’s considered one of the best marketing and advertising minds in North America, and has been part of the creative process for some of the most recognizable brands on the continent.

Terry O’Reilly has directed over 14,000 commercials over this 40 year career, and written hundreds more. In recent years he started hosting a radio program and podcast about the profession, and how it’s really a fascinating study of human nature.

Morning Show Co-Host Chris Sumner MC’d the P.W. Enns Business Awards Gala hosted by the Winkler and District and Chamber of Commerce where Terry spoke. Before the evening began, Chris spent some one on one time with Terry to talk about his story.

 

 

The focus of his presentation was how the company with the best story, wins. More on that in a moment, but first I asked Terry to reflect on how marketing and advertising has changed over his 40 year career.

 

 

So with four decades of ads in his portfolio, what’s one that sticks out to him? It was a campaign for Fiberglass Pink Home Insulation.

 

 

Chris tells us of all the nuggets Terry shared in his presentation Thursday evening, this is the one that stuck with him... "Trust is meant to be felt, not stated". Terry related that back to how we all feel when someone says, "Hey, trust me", compared to how we feel when our trust is earned through actions. "Trust is meant to be felt, not stated".
