We love celebrating the people doing great things in our communities, especially those who volunteer to make where we live better. And we would suggest the story of Altona’s Doreen Sawatzky qualifies for a shout out this morning.

After nearly 35 years of volunteering at the Ten Thousand Villages Store in town, most of those as Store Manager, she’s worked her final shift. It was 1984 when she first stepped through the doors, of what at the time, was known as Self Help Crafts.

And after retailing fair-trade craft and food items for nearly 35 years, we knew Doreen would have some thoughts to share about what have been the most popular items over the last three plus decades.

Congratulations Doreen, and enjoy your “retirement”!
