The 2011 Canada Winter Games will begin this weekend in Nova Scotia. The opening ceremony starts Friday at 5 p.m. in Halifax. Squash player Alix Younger of Winnipeg will be Team Manitoba's Flag Bearer. It will be the second Canada Games for Younger who is the reigning 2010 Under-19 National Junior Women's champion. Competition starts on Saturday.

Week One sports include Artistic Gymnastics, Biathlon, Female Curling, Freestyle Skiing, Male Hockey, Ringette, Long & Short Track Speed Skating, Squash, Target Shooting and Wheelchair Basketball.

Week Two sports include Alpine Skiing, Archery, Badminton, Boxing, Cross Country Skiing (including Para Nordic), Male Curling, Figure Skating (including Special Olympics), Female Hockey, Judo, Snowboarding, Synchronized Swimming and Table Tennis.





Team 'Toba Chef de Mission Ted Bigelow talked about our province's goals at the Canada Winter Games.

Gabrielle May, competed in Artistic Gymnastics at the 2007 Canada Winter Games in Whitehorse is Team Toba’s Honourary Captain for the Halifax Games. This past summer May won two bronze medals for Canada at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in India.
