The Miller Aces have joined the Morden Thunder and Morris Mavericks in round two of the Zone 4 High School Hockey League playoffs.

Ryan Smiley and Kirby Sawatzky scored two goals each as Miller defeated Garden Valley 5-3 Thursday in Winkler.

Bryson Loewen also scored for the Aces who swept the best-of-three quarterfinal in two games straight.

Peter Enns, Victor Keeper and Arlen Peters replied for the Zodiacs.

Garden Valley trailed 2-0 after the first period but led 3-2 after 40 minutes thanks to those unanswered goals by Enns, Keeper and Peters.

Sawatzky's first of the game on the power play 1:42 into the third period tied the score at 3-3.

Smiley's second of the night with 7:22 left in regulation proved to be the winner.

Sawatzky added an empty netter with 13 seconds left.

Miller goaltender Declan Enns made 36 saves.

GVC netminder Odin Pauls faced 46 shots.

Round one ends Saturday when Northlands Parkway faces the Pembina Tigers in Winkler in the deciding third game of their series.
