Christian Avelar and Jordan Keck of the Morris Mavericks both recorded hat-tricks and Matt Fehr of the Miller Aces and Rylan Metcalf of the Carman Cougars added two goals each as Team Blue defeated Team White 12-8 in the 27th annual Zone 4 High School Hockey League All-Star game Sunday afternoon in Carman.

"It's a good time," said Avelar who has 22 goals in 16 games this season. "You don't want to go out there too hard. You're not throwing hits. You're trying to have a good time and make friends with players from across the league."

Brayden Klippenstein and Stanley Storck of the Mavericks also scored for Team Blue.

Carman goaltender Alex Clemis knew he was going to face a lot of rubber in his 30 minutes of ice time.

"It's always good to stop lots of pucks. You try to make some big saves out there but really it's just for the fun of it. Just got out there and try your best."

Evan Wuech and Brayden Jonasson of the Morden Thunder; Curran Ice, Sean Ballantyne and Lucas Neufeld of Portage Collegiate; Carter Wall and Sam Voth of Northlands Parkway along with TJ Matuszweski of Garden Valley replied for Team White.

Goal scoring opportunities came fast & furious Sunday thanks to the total lack of backchecking by forwards on both teams.

"As a defenseman it's kind of weird because you know that," said Morden's Jordan Blatz. "It's just an all-star game and you're just going to go out there and have some fun. You don't get to play with guys like this everyday and it's good to get the experience to play with other players in the league."

Team Blue consisted of players from the Carman Cougars, Morris Mavericks, Miller Aces and Pembina Tigers.

Team White all-stars were from the Morden Thunder, Northlands Parkway Nighthawks, Garden Valley Zodiacs, Portage Collegiate Trojans and Prairie Mountain Mustangs.
